My boyfriend and I are moving to Florianopolis in a few months (he's Brazilian) and I'm going to need a job! Any suggestions? I've taught ESL for 2 years in the Peace Corps and have years of waitressing/bartending experience. Would love some advice. Thanks!Nicole

Nicole, I would try doing a web search to see what jobs are available, and I am sure there are PLENTY of waitressing and bar tending jobs, but I think that you would want to get a job with your degree to make more, but you could start out with a guarnteed job such as a bartender or waitress, and than continue looking for a job with your degree.

Tara is right, she suggested many ideas for you to go with. I would try doing what she suggested.

Why go to Florianopolis:The economy of Florianópolis is heavily based on tourism and services. The city has 42 beaches and is a center of surfing activity. Newsweek put Florianópolis in the "Ten most dynamic cities of the world" list. Veja magazine, a Brazilian publication, named the city as "the best place to live in Brazil." As a result of this publicity, Florianopolis is growing as a second home destination for many Paulistas, Argentines, U.S. citizens and Europeans.

Hello, I lived in Florianapolis in 2004. My suggestion to you is to wait until you are in country to find a new job. Florianapolis is a very dynamic city, and you will be sure to love it. My suggestion if you are struggling finding a job in Florianapolis, is to find a job in Sao Jose. It is literally a two minute bus ride over the bridge, and a lot bigger. You may have a lot more success there. Good Luck! Sam

"English teaching job in Floiranopolis"
Hi- I live in Hawaii currently and would love the opportunity to live in Brazil. I know I can get a job teaching English in either Rio or Sao Paulo but I have heard both have very high crime rates. I want the beach and friendly people. Florianopolis was recommended by a Brazilian friend out here. Is teaching English in Florianopolis a good possibility for an Italian guy who speaks Spanish ?( I got a Portugese book yesterday) I plan on coming to Brazil in mid February when school starts. Any thoughts? Mateo

"Editor/Sweet Home Floripa"
Florianopolis is a great town with low crime and great people. Teaching English IS the way to go. There are lots of people who will pay R40/hr to learn English in Floripa. For more info see: sweethomefloripa.com

"Teaching English in Floripa-help please!"
Regarding Dan's previous message, i'm planning to move to Floripa for between 1-3 months, and i'm hoping to get a job teaching English. I've looked online, but there doesn't seem to be much out there, and you mentioned it was THE way to go. How can i be a R40/hr earner? Any information you have will be really appreciated! Thanks, Hana

"Searching..."
Are you searching in English or Portuguese? Have you looked in the classifieds sections of local newspapers (are any of those available online?) • Page 1 (Original Post) •
