Arne Rasmussen from Curitiba - Brasil - 01/02/07 19:37
I love to live here in Curitiba, but it is very difficult to learn the language! I don´t dere to say how long I have stayed here!
Comment #1 Brian from Chapters - 06/22/07 20:28
Arne, I have visited Brasil twice recently but only travelled around the state of RJ (Rio). I am considering moving to Brasil and after doing a bit of research about Curitiba it may be suitable to me. At the very least I plan on visiting there on my next journey to Brasil. I am Canadian and certainly appreciate the year round summer of Brasil.I am interested in either working or starting a business in Brasil. So far I only speak English so the only possibility of a job, as far as I can tell, would be to teach English. I plan on taking Portuguese classes but obviously this takes considerable time and effort. I have Brasilian friends in Rio but they are so eager to practice speaking English with me that I have learned very little Portuguese from them - so Portuguese tutoring will be necessary.
Any information I can get about business opportunities or teaching English in Curitiba would be greatly appreciated.

I have known Brazil through my parents. They talk a lot about it, they talk about their travels and stays in that beautiful country. How I wish I can go there.
Is there someone who can tell me the requirements how can I go to Brazil? What visa is needed and what are the other things that must be compiled and follow.
Thanks.

The website for the Brazilian Consul in New York should give you a pretty good idea.I think they have a list of which countries need visas or not.
You need to full out the application, show your ticket going to and out of Brazil, tell them where you are staying and why you are going.
You might need to show you can support your self. I did that by showing them a credit card.
Pay the fee and that's it.

have you tried googling it? They have online schools that will help you learn the language you want.. try that out and let me know if it helps..

I would have to agree with geri, I would also try googling it, and see if you can find some type of book, or cds that you can listen to and have that teach you at your own pace to learn the language.

When googling for a Spanish tutorial try adding torrents on your search.Example "Spanish Tutorials Torrents"
It will give you a full list of torrent file available. or you could directly go to torrent sites like demonoid, mininova, or torrentz.
If you lucky enough you might even finds video or audio tutorials for Spanish tutorials.
For me I've downloaded about 10gb worth of files when I badly needed to understand basic Japanese searching in this sites.

I have a best friend that is from Brazil, and he has told me that the language is almost the same as spanish. So, maybe if you learned spanish you would be able to understand or talk a little bit of portuguase (spelling?)

He does not necessary need to speak portuguese to teach english, once students will be there to learn ENGLISH, so classes should be taught in ENGLISH.You can google: "escolas de inglês em curitiba".
It will show a bunch of famous languages schools here and you can contact them by yourself looking for vacancies.

This "boring forum" certainly allows you to put a link (of any reasonable link)... just put http://www... link in the box where it says "Web link".Now, what would be BORING is doing that for you all the time!

The coin operated boy, that is interesting. Do you mean to suggest that your parents cannot at all provide the information you could be looking for? Unless they normally tarvel without their visas. It is an optional link, isn't it? I am sure the boredom that results is also a matter of choice
Comment #13 Moya (63.176.159.66) - 09/18/09 21:42
Yeah that was sort of funny and i think there something fishy in that post of coin operated boy.. Have you run out of coins to not consider talking on your parents regarding that matter?Well for those guys who are interested and open to the idea of teaching english in curitiba then certainly you would want to go and search for some answers on the net. i bet there are.

Hi there guys. I am thinking about applying for a job in Brazil as an English teacher. We are moving to the said country early next year because my husband will be working there. And so I would also want to have a job while in there and some of my friends said that teaching English there would be a great idea. Have a great day guys and keep posting.
