Arne, As an ex-Peace Corp Volunteer, I've lived and travelled throughout Central America, Mexico and some parts of South America, but I have never been in Brazil.
So, why do you love Curitiba? Low cost of living, warm climate, security? Just curious.

Wow...I see all of these post here and it makes me feel well seasoned. Ya'll are all GREEN-go's. Your city of interest is pretty diverse. I live in a much smaller place with a whole lot less crime, though you will find that your place to land in South Brasil is FAR more civilized than in the BIG CITIES.
Rent is cheap (700 USD a month will get you in a pretty decent place) Opening a business.. ..likely more headache than you are willing to go through. My daughter gets her nails done for 2 Dollars and her hair ALL DONE UP AS EXPENSIVE AS IT GETS for 15 dollars. If you had the client base, spoke the lingo..you might make it. To get the GREEN CARD...that will take some real effort...
I find Brasil LAID back as it gets. Until this past year there was no such thing as a DWI even.
Live and let live..Just LOCK YOUR STUFF!...or better yet..OWN NOTHING..cannot steal that! There are statistics regarding all the cities and crime. at WWW.lookitup.com

John, this seems like a monologue. Where on earth is Arne for that matter. Her reasons for liking the place might be as varied and diverse as would be what you consider to be the fine things in life. She could tell you a lot then you find them all unnecessary. Why not inquire from someone else?

Low cost of living would be the first thing to attract guys to. However, the reasons will be as varied as they can get. The reasons might also be personal. If you need to travel to a place do not rely on heresy because it would mean that you have done so according to what someone else has recommended. So what is good about curitiba

A little info regarding Curitiba Curitiba is a city in southern Brazil and the capital of Paraná state (estado) since 1854. It was founded in 1654 as a gold-mining camp. Population: 1, 8 million (2007 estimate).
From the early 19th century it received many German, Italian, and Polish settlers, and immigration continued during the 20th century with the arrival of Syrians and Japanese, as well as a massive influx of internal migrants from rural areas.

Curitiba is a very nice and a must see place in Brazil, Curitiba, the capital of Paraná is a well-planned and pleasant city, and well worth a stop. The Oscar Niemeyer Museum and its many parks are highlights, but the city also offers excellent restaurants and a busy cultural life. The best reason to stop, however, is that the most scenic train journey in the country starts here, on the railway that links Curitiba to the port of Paranaguá.

Though Brazil's crime rate, in general, may be off the charts, it is still an incredibly culturally adverse country and it is beautifully put together.

This is why they have events that are upcoming such as the Amazonian Summit, the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics.

Can anyone say otherwise and be found to be correct? I would beg to differ, but i could easily be wrong. I welcome the argument, it is my nature as I was born from such planet, indeed.

The planet of the Virgo, to be precise, just so you know. We love to argue, this is why I await the test. Very much patiently, but I do await it.
