Amazon Jungle Adventure

Amazon, Brazil

Frank Weber from Las Vegas -

I had a real jungle adventure. We arrived in Manaus and met Armstrong Batista and Eule Venincio at the airport. They brought us to the

Continental Hotel very nice and cosy place. Then we booked a 4 days jungle tour on a riverboat. The next morning we started to the

meeting of the waters, quite impressive, where a dark river meets a light color one and they don't mix for many kilometers. Then we went

Piranha fishing and in the night we were catching Aligators. We slept on the boat in a hammock, marvelous. But hte next day the real

adventure started. On a jungle walk I broke my feet and the guide Rinaldo had to carry me for over 2 hours. They brought me immediately

to Manaus in a hospital. I just get out and like to thank Armstrong and his crew very much for all support like arranging medical car,

changing airline ticket, international phone call and the daily visits in the hospital. So if you arrive in Manaus look for him, he is everyday in the airport, a huge, very friendly guy, who speaks all skandinavial languages, german, dutch and I don't know what else. His website is amazonwildtour.com

Be careful. You just type this name in Google:Amazon Lilies Tours, Armstrong Barros Batista and you will find various people that have been ripped of by him. This "adventure story" was probably written by himself.

Written by Armstrong or not, it does not matter really. The touts at the Manaus airport, port and busstation are very tricky and make a huge margin - sometimes over 100% - on jungle tours. You must negociate like in an Arabian bazar. A good idea is to mention, that you have been in Peru and Colombia, and that there tours are costing around 40 USD per day. The standard so called jungle tours (for me, real jungle cannot be found around Manaus), where guests sleep in simple lodges or in groups of five or more in the jungle, are not worth more than that. Ask for the ¨pacote de residente¨ or go to places, where the locals are going, such as Presidente Figueredo. On your own of course, without agent or tout.
